Fun and Fitness Morning
A Montessori education emphasizes collaboration, parent participation and the advantages of mixed age groups. Last Thursday these were all evident as we held our 2017 Cycle 1 Fun and Fitness Morning on the oval. We had perfect weather and very enthusiastic participants.
Our Year 6 leaders set up the activities and manned each station. They confidently introduced themselves, and competently and kindly explained the activities and helped the younger children participate.
Year 6 leader, Marshall said, “It was great fun helping the younger children and seeing the parents participate as well.”
It can be a challenge for young children to be in an unfamiliar environment, with lots of people, and just as challenging, to line up and take turns. But our 3, 4 and 5 years olds were confident and showed excellent social skills. Some children preferred to watch whilst others engaged happily with the activities. The favourite activity was definitely the parachute and it was great to see such joy on the children’s faces as they tossed the balls into the air and caught them again. We finished the activities with some dancing and it was lovely to see everyone joining in.
Indigo, Marli and Jacinta’s favourite activity was playing popcorn with the parachute. Luca enjoying kicking the ball into the goal and bouncing the ball on the rebound trampoline.
Finally, we all shared lunch in the Preschool and it was a great way to end the morning. A big thank you to everyone who brought a plate a food – we had an amazing feast.
While we were having fun on the oval, professional photographer Jessica Macrow was kindly volunteering her time to take amazing photos of the food. Look out for our Cycle 1 RECIPE BOOK which will be coming soon!
I would like to thank the Cycle 1 educators, Michelle and the Year 6 Leaders, Sophia, Rachel and Anna, all our lovely Cycle 1 children and our wonderful families for making Fun and Fitness 2017 a great success.
I would also like to thank Jessica for donating her time and expertise. If you need a professional photographer, please have a look at Jessica’s website and consider supporting her http://www.macrowphotography.com.au
