Term 2 Alison’s Class
It has been a fantastic term in Alison’s Class. The students have worked hard on projects about planets and done some light experiments.
Highlights must be the Sky Lab incursion, where a giant dome enabled us to feel what it might be like in the future living in space. There was a terrific demonstration of the constellations and the children learned about the origins of this. We have written thank you letters to Dean the teacher for his interesting presentation.
The students enjoyed a ‘Mission to Mars’ challenge that involved initially researching the planet and then applying this knowledge in a fun ‘thinking skills’ activity in which they had to debate what 6 items from a supply list they would take. It led to a lengthy discussion!
Our final challenge in this study was to build a Moon Lander from a restricted set of materials. There were constraints in this challenge that the students had to comply with and they needed to record designs and any changes along the way. The results were creative and given a second try, well thought through.
I’d like to thank parents for supporting our healthy snacks and lunch boxes. There is a marked improvement in what the children are bringing to school. With the help of Teresa we are applying for a grant to help us continue making healthy snacks to share next term.
Hope you all have a happy break.
