Rachel’s Little Penguins
We have had a great start to term two. For Cultural Studies we are focusing on Mapping and Geography. To begin our unit we asked the children what they wanted to learn about in regards to the world. They sure did have some interesting questions such as: ‘Why is Darwin called Darwin?’ ‘What plants grew on the big land before it separated into seven continents?’ ‘Are there any volcanoes near us?’ and ‘Why is Australia important?’
As part of our focus on mapping, we have been looking at symbols, in particular Aboriginal symbols. The children used sticks in the sandpit to practice writing these symbols to tell a story. (add pictures of sandpit pics with story – add draw stories and scribe from classroom)
To support our work on mapping and location, in Math’s and Grammar lessons we have been learning about prepositions. The children used iPad’s and cameras to take pictures of a teddy placed in different parts of the room. The children wrote a sentence to match.
