Talk for Writing- The Gruffalo
In our class we all know the story of the Gruffalo, in fact we know it so well we could probably tell you the story without the book!
This term we have been using the Talk for Writing approach to facilitate our narrative writing. This approach emphasises the importance of oral language and story telling. Children learn quality stories by using picture maps, retelling the story orally and boxing up author’s ideas.
Following the initial phase children then move onto the innovate phase in which they retell the story they have internalised and create their own new adventure.
We have been working very hard to produce a new story so we wanted to show you some of our work!
The Butterfly and the Hippopotamus by Piper S. – Year 1
The Dinosaur story by Progga – Year 2
