Cycle 2 Camp
Camp 2019 was so much fun!! After the long bus ride to Woodhouse Activity Centre, Piccadilly, we were straight into activities. We learnt about microscopic bugs that inhabit the local area and their importance to the ecosystem and food chains. We explored them with magnifying glasses and determined their names from a flow chart. Our survivor skills were also tested, as we explored ways to clean dirty water to make it suitable to drink, how to build shelter, as well as different ways we could start a fire. We had some keen campers amongst the group who channeled their “inner Bear Grylls” and proved to be very knowledgeable. It was then off to Challenge Hill, a physically demanding obstacle course. It was fantastic to see all the children give things a go, with many focused and determined to complete every gruelling challenge.
The fun rolled on into our night time activities where Quizty (Kristy) hosted a range of cooperative quiz and game related activities. Working in teams the children battled it out in puzzles, balancing games, paper aeroplane contests, heads and tails, who am I questions, just to name a few!
The next morning, the children were a little quieter and less energetic (funny that!). Nevertheless, the Labyrinth, a large 2 story maze, kept them busy trying to solve riddles and find their way out. Orienteering caused them to draw on any remaining energy they had as we navigated our way around the camp grounds, using a map and photo clues to find our way. Everyone had little in the tank after that (including us teachers!).
Camp was a huge success, enjoyed by all, and we look forward to doing it all again in 2020!
