Cycle 3 out and about
A key principle of Montessori learning is ‘going out’ and obtaining real world experiences to link learning. We aim to find authentic ways to provide these opportunities to enhance the student’s experiences in the classroom.
Our Cultural Studies topic has centered around Botany this term with investigations of the function of plants and ways plants have adapted to their environment.
Creek and yard walks, as well as plants brought from home and grown in the classroom, have provided us with fantastic hands-on experiences to spark our interest and aid our understanding of this topic. To add to this we also went to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens for a day, focusing on how rainforest plants, in the ever-popular Bicentennial Conservatory, and desert plants have adapted. The Water Lily pavilion and the lawned area covered in large leaves fallen from deciduous trees were other favourite areas of the gardens enjoyed by the students. Thank you to our parent helpers who joined us for the day enabling the students to split into small groups and gain more from their visit.
FAME Jnr the musical
We have also been to the theatre! We were invited to attend a preview performance of Cabra Dominican College’s school musical performance of FAME Jnr, a fantastic chance to experience live theatre close up. The students from Cabra, some not much older than our students, did an amazing job with their performance. To add to the fun, the audience had been invited to dress up in 80’s themed attire to add to the atmosphere. Many of our students opted for this which added to a great day out.
