Michelle and Lea’s class – Climate Change focus
Our class, along with the other two Cycle 3 classes and a group of students from Cycle 2 are involved in a project with NRM (Natural Resource Management) and the City of Onkaparinga called ‘Climate Ready Schools Initiative’. Students have participated in information sessions about the key factors involved with climate change and the 2 main climate change responses: Mitigation, looking at ways to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, and Adaptation, preparing for and responding to climate change impacts.
In our class we did an activity called ‘My Green Footprint!’ where we answered questions about our water use, amount of waste produced, the energy we use and our habits as consumers to score and map our green footprint. We then looked at ways we could improve our behaviour and actions to lessen our impact on the earth.
Some of our goals were:
- I need to take shorter showers.
- I should re-use old items more.
- I could recycle more.
- Turning things off at the power point.
- Take public transport and turn the lights off.
- Buy less clothes.
