Health and Well-being Festival
Last Thursday, the Middle School students travelled to The Hills Montessori School to take part in a Health and Well-being Festival that involved various health professionals presenting information to the student cohort. The purpose of the day was to bring personal well-being to the forefront of student thinking. Teachers from both schools worked together to create a day that educated students as to the services in the wider community that allow individuals to maintain physical and mental health.
Students were engaged in presentations from doctors, health scientists, psychologists, yoga / mediation instructors, police officers, self-defence experts, and personal trainers with the common goal to expose students as to what is available to support them as they transition from adolescence to adulthood. The sessions were practical and thought provoking, and the feedback from the students was that it was a great day.
It was a unique opportunity for our students to spend some time with other like-minded students. We are one of only two Montessori middle school’s in South Australia and it was great for our students to interact with others who are engaged in similar work and projects. Our students consistently demonstrate social skills and maturity beyond their years when we take them out of Karawatha Hall. It was lovely to see positive interaction between young adults. We are constantly in discussions with the staff at The Hills Montessori and are looking forward to more opportunities to get our students together for practical, real-life learning.
