This term in the Friday Program we have been learning about fractions. The children have been really engaged in this unit of work, and have loved showing each other fractions they have found or created throughout the day. We have been continuing our work on number at the children’s individual levels with the help of the Montessori maths materials. For literacy, we have been reading stories, singing songs, and playing rhyming and initial sound games. The children look forward to our Jolly Phonics lessons and our ‘letter of the week’ art and craft. We have also been doing lots of work on building fine motor control and hand muscle strength in preparation for writing. Activities have included the Montessori metal insets, cylinder blocks, paper folding and threading beads. In the afternoons, we have attended Assembly, with a particular highlight being the day we sang our ‘Watermelon song’ in front of the school. We have been participating in weekly Science Rotations with the Reception classes, where we have been learning about ‘States of Matter’, ‘Weather’ and ‘Natural and Synthetic Materials’. I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge how hard the children have been working, and how much I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach them on Fridays. Next term we welcome a number of new children due to begin on Fridays, and say farewell to those moving on to school, although we will continue to work with them for Fitness, ‘Fruity Fridays’ and Science Rotations. I wish the children moving up to school the very best, and I’m confident they will find the transition a smooth and seamless process. I wish everyone a happy and restful holiday break, and look forward to next term.
Kind Regards, Anne-Marie
