Little Scientist House
Over the past year the Cycle 1 team have attended training and put into practice a hands on, inquiry-based STEM curriculum through a program called Little Scientist. Our commitment to this program has been recognised and we are celebrating becoming a “Little Scientists House”.
To become accredited we submitted a wonderful project that stemmed from a discussion with the children on why it’s not a good idea to drink the water in the sand pit. This led to a project on creating filtration systems based on the children’s hypotheses. The children decided what resources they would need, tested their designs and documented their own findings.
Children in Cycle 1 are given the opportunity to discover the joy of STEM in a fun, play-based way, introducing them to important concepts and skills that will become more and more important throughout their education journey. Inquiry-based learning allows them to explore various scientific topics in a setting that amplifies their natural curiosity, their eagerness to learn and aligns with our Montessori pedagogy.
To showcase some of our STEM based learning from 2019 we held a science fair last Friday afternoon. The children were able to demonstrate many of their experiments to their families, such as coding, buoyancy, engineering, forces and the senses. Thank you to everyone who came and joined in, we hope you learnt something!
