We have had such a great year in Creative Arts with lots going on.
This year the Cycle 1 students performed beautifully in the musical ‘There’s a Sunflower in my Supper’.
In Term 3 students learned all about colour theory and also completed lots of book week themed artworks.
This Term, students have been learning about Music. We have been learning lots of fun songs and using the percussion instruments to investigate different sounds.
This year the Cycle 2 students also performed in a musical called ‘The Bee Musical’. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned lots about how bees are essential to our ecosystem.
This Term students have been learning about music notation and how to represent simple rhythms. We have been practicing this on our bucket drums and students have been very engaged in the process. We have been learning to play along with popular songs, which has been very effective.
The Cycle 3 students have had lots of choice in their learning this year. In the beginning of the year students engaged in a unit about Visual Arts and created many stunning artworks.
In Term 3 students focused on Dance appreciation and learned all about the Australian Ballet’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’. We watched the ballet in class before students engaged in a reflection project of their choice.
This Term, Cycle 3 students have been focusing on Music Composition. They had a chance to compose using the percussion instruments available in the classroom in addition to composing using an app on the IPad called Garage Band. The students have been very creative and have enjoyed learning about different ways to create sounds.
Next year I will be on maternity leave following the expected arrival of my baby in February. I am very excited to spend some time bonding with my family but I will also miss the Southern Montessori community in this time. Lea will be taking over the Creative Arts teaching role for 2019 and I know that the students will all enjoy the many new experiences that she has to offer.
