Working Bee Update – Term 3
The weather was working bee perfect! The sun shone, the sky was blue, and the air still! A large group of parents, aunties, grandparents, children and staff attended the latest bee. Many varied jobs were completed such as washing windows in the Cycle 3 classrooms, pruning and weeding the garden near the shed, sweeping and using a blow vac to clean the pathways and link areas, tidying the second hand clothing boxes, cleaning the outdoor kitchen and preparing the garden in the Preschool for the butterfly native garden and I’m sure I’ve missed some! The children worked alongside their parents and peers gardening and preparing the beds. In the Preschool this involved shovelling the dirt from the land into barrows, delivering this dirt to various sites for disposal, and then shovelling the new soil into the barrows to tip into the prepared garden beds. The children were joyful and engaged over a two and half hour period. There was lots of repetition, developing muscles, concentration, negotiating, laughter and what we call in Montessori education, purposeful work. In the coming weeks we will plant into this space the butterfly friendly plants. Everyone is most welcome to come and have a look at our new garden bed. Without the support from the Onkaparinga Council Environmental grant this venture would not have been possible. Thanks so much to everyone who made this morning so successful.
Kind regards,
