Term 4 is always very busy and last week was no exception with one announcement and three special events:
Assistant Principal Position
Congratulations to Alison who has accepted the Assistant Principal position from January 2020.
Cycle 2 Camp
Camp is a wonderful opportunity for students to build confidence, and demonstrate resilience and independence, as well as have lots of fun with peers. Our Cycle 2 students came back happy and exhausted! A big thank you to the teachers for organising this experience and for the parents who volunteered their time to make it possible.
Cycle 1 Science Fair
On Friday afternoon the Preschool and Reception classes invited families to attend our Science Fair. The children were very keen to demonstrate the activities. Once again, thank you to our teachers for developing a program where learning is driven by curiosity and children are encouraged to ask questions and challenged to take action.
Middle School information Session for Families of Students Transitioning in 2020.
On Tuesday afternoon James, Ben and Toni shared information about our Adolescent Program with parents of transitioning students. Parents enjoyed the chance to meet the teachers and ask questions. A big thank you to Ros, parent of a current Year 7 student, for sharing the concerns either she had when her daughter transitioned in January 2019 or other parents had.
Initial concerns included:
- Transport to and from Middle School
There was a concern from some parents that catching public transport was a giant leap. Ros explained that this concern was unfounded as the students grew in independence, maturity and confidence in the process.
- Limited facilities available
Families were reassured upon seeing that our Middle School is a school that exists in the community, and our students live and interact in the real world. Schools with more facilities act as their own community which can separate them from the wider community.
- What can students do at lunchtime?
James explained that there are several reserves and parks within close walking distance suitable for large games. Students also have access to basketball and cricket, and can continue following their own interests and passions, for example, music.
Thank you to the Middle School teachers for organising this information session. It was lovely to see so many families attend the meeting. Thank you for making it a priority.
