Cycle 3 Alison’s Class
Term 3
A busy term has seen the students take part in Science Week, Book Week, a visit to Parliament House as part of Cultural Studies, and a Camp at Ankara Youth Camp. No wonder we’re ready for a break!
Science Week
Students chose a scientist and their discovery to research about and presented in the Science Week Assembly. They showed excellent self-directed learning and co-operation when working in their groups.
Book Week
We focused on the picture books that were used in the Book Week Show. ‘I am Australian’ by Mem Fox raised many questions about what it means to be Australian and some students enjoyed making their own Australian Citizenship Test. ‘Florette’ by Anna Walker leant itself beautifully to our Grammar work on prepositions as the story follows a girl around a city looking for a garden. Discussions around what is important in our own lives were interesting and different.
Parliament House
We were so fortunate to be shown around Parliament House by Minister Kyam Mayer and Minister Katrine Hildyard. Their knowledge was imparted at just the right level for our children to understand and their friendliness made us all feel at ease. Thank you to them both. We acted out some noisy debates back in the classroom, which led to our speaker (Michael) having to ask a few rowdy ministers (such as Liam Y) to leave!
Camp
What a fabulous few days away at Walkers Flat we have all had! The students were busy on outdoor activities from morning until early evening without a word of complaint. It has been lovely to see how well they all got along and supported each other while away from home. Highlights must be ‘raft building’ that saw a fair few students very wet, but had everybody laughing.
