“Important to Me” Children’s Art Display
At the end of last term all the Cycle 1, 2 and 3 classes participated in the “Important to Me” art project in Art lessons with Lea. This is an art project run by Communities for Children.
Each year Communities for Children Onkaparinga invites children within the Onkaparinga area to participate in the project. The objective of the project is to create a fun and colourful composition of children’s images that will be used to promote the voices of children and things that are important to them. Children are invited to draw their vision of ‘What is important’ and write a sentence to provide insight into their thoughts. All the artwork is displayed as part of a statewide exhibition, where it can be voted and selected to be published in the 2020 Communities for Children State Calendar.
The exhibition for Onkaparinga was held at the Woodcroft Library this Sunday May 19, as part of Families Week. It was a lovely way to spend a cold and wet Sunday afternoon, pondering over 700 pieces of art, and great to see so many families from our school, enjoying the art display and lots of other fun activities. Thank you to everyone who came along. All the children and adults that I spoke with agreed that it was a well-organised and worthwhile event.
We hope to see some of Southern Montessori’s children’s voices and artwork reflected in the 2020 Communities for Children State Calendar in the near future.
