We have had a great start to the term and most children have settled in well. Transitions can be really difficult for some children and this can be made easier by setting up a routine with your child. Educators are happy to support families to put a plan in place.
What’s been happening?
This term we are talking about our past and present as part of our focus on history this term. We have introduced the children to the vocabulary of past and present through the gradual introduction of objects that represent both times (past and present). Some examples we have shared so far, include using a typewriter (past) and compared this to a laptop (present) and the use of a tape recorder (past) and the iPod (present) for music. The children have enjoyed the hands on activities in particular using the hand held tape recorder to record their voices as they sing their favourite songs.
In science we have extended on this theme of passing of time through the making of a human sundial. The older children predicted where their shadow will be and what it will look like at the next tracing time. We observed how the shadows changed throughout the day, both direction and the size of the shadow. We extended this through shadow puppets and a discussion on how shadows are made.
