Welcome to Wendy and Jo’s class 2019
Dear Parents,
We would like to welcome you and your child to their 2019 class. Our Cycle 2 class consists of children in Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3. Wendy will teach the class Monday to Wednesday and Jo will teach Thursday and Friday. Desiree will be our classroom assistant. Children work and learn at their own pace and are supported at the appropriate level to maximise their individual learning opportunities. We operate as a classroom community where everyone is entitled to feel happy, safe and secure in both themselves, and their learning.
Some reminders of school routines ….
SCHOOL HOURS – School hours are 8:50am – 3:20pm. Parents are welcome to stay between 8:50am and 9:00am with quiet work time commencing at 9:00am. Unless you are a parent helper, we ask that you respect this request. It can be difficult for some children to work with several parents in the classroom. At the end of the day the children will be dismissed from the class door. This can be a very busy time so to limit distractions we ask that you wait outside the building for your child.
DROP OFF AND CLASSROOM ENTRY – School gates will be open at 8:30am and a teacher will be on duty. The main school building will open at 8:50am and all children will enter through their classroom door. Any children arriving after 9:00am must enter via the front office to minimise disruptions and will be entered into the roll as a late arrival.
NUTRITION – A Montessori program considers the growth of the whole child and believes nutrition plays a vital role in the development of young children. We therefore ask that you review the attached policy regarding school lunches. We also encourage lunches to have no packaging in order to support our environmental and sustainability programmes.
UNIFORM – School colours are strictly navy blue and white. A legionnaire school hat is also essential and must be worn during outside play. (It is also helpful if children’s belongings are clearly named).
READING and HOMEWORK – Your encouragement, involvement and support are crucial in your child’s reading and homework. Your child will have an allocated day in which they will change their readers and homework with a teacher. For maximum results, your child needs to read daily. A homework grid will be provided in a workbook allowing your child to choose tasks that follow their interests.
- More details about readers and homework will follow
in the next few weeks once the children have been assessed and we have settled into routines more effectively.
POCKETS and COMMUNICATION – These are located right next to the door. These pockets are the school’s way of getting notices to you. Please help your child to remember to check these regularly. Should we need to meet in person about any matters, an appointment will need to be scheduled at a time that suits all parties involved.
PICK UP – If anyone other than a parent or designated carer is to collect your child, please inform us or let the front office staff know. This is for your child’s safety so we are aware of who is collecting your child. Should you need to collect your child earlier than 3:20pm for any reason, you must go through the front office and we will be notified to send your child upstairs.
PARENT HELPERS – Your help is always welcome! There are a variety of jobs that we require support with throughout the year so if you are able to assist in anyway, please pop in and see us.
We look forward to working with you
throughout 2019!
