We have had a very successful and productive Term 1 in the Preschool Friday Program. The children enjoyed participating in a number of events including ‘Dream Career Dress Up Day’ and Amanda Rishworth’s ‘Kindy Art Show’. Thank you to all the children and their families for your support throughout the term. It has been lovely getting to know you all and building positive working relationships which I’m sure will continue to develop as the year progresses.
As a main cultural focus for Term 1, we explored ‘Art History’, and learnt a lot about some famous artists and their techniques. For mathematics we investigated shapes and fractions. Other major learning focuses this past term have been:
• developing pencil and scissor skills
• letter and number recognition
• phonemic awareness
• care of self and the environment
• building secure and positive relationships
• general school readiness behaviours
It has been a pleasure working with the children and watching their skills and confidence grow week by week. It’s especially rewarding for me to see the children so excited and engaged in their own discoveries. I love watching them make connections with the world around them, and feel so privileged that I can be a part of their learning.
This term we will continue to build on our skills in literacy and numeracy, using a lot of the traditional Montessori materials. Our cultural focus will be Geography. Activities will include learning the names and shapes of the seven continents, and exploring some of the animals, people and artefacts of this diverse and beautiful planet.
As always, if you have any questions or comments about the program or your child’s individual progress, please do not hesitate to book in a time to see me.
